Over 1400 Germany pictures - Oldenburg Innenstadt

28 April

(Warning...Picture intensive page!  Be patient if the pictures don't show up right away.)

We got up Saturday and drove to Bamberg to visit Anne's friend Claudia, as well as to be tourists in and around Bamberg!  It is a beautiful city!

The crest for the city of Bamberg

This is Claudia's room and the view out of her window.  She only pays about $175.00/month here!  I wish that there was an option like this in the U.S.

These pictures are of the Obere Pfarre Kirche.  I think this was my favorite cathedral of the trip.  Since it was earlier in the morning and kind of off the beaten path, Anne, Claudia, and myself were the only ones in the church.  It was awesome!

A panorama of the Obere Pfarre Kirche

Obere Pfarre Kirche on the inside was absolutely beautiful!

I wanted to give an idea of how ornate the ceiling was, and then the picture wraps down to the organ in the back of the church.  Hopefully you can imagine the beauty of this church, but to really experience it, you should definitely visit!

A nice panroama in Bamberg of the garten and St. Michael's in the background.

From the garden, there's an overview of the whole city of Bamberg!  Quite awesome!

A picture can tell 1,000 words, but there's no substitute for experience.  Panoramic View of Bamberg.

Photos by the river in Bamberg.  The picture on the right below is part of the library for the university where Claudia studies.  Very cool!

Want to get an American's attention?  Put up an American flag.
Here, flying proudly by the river in Bamberg, hangs the red, white, and blue, as well as the state flag of Maryland.

This is St. Martin's in Bamberg.  It was a really beautiful place where I had some nice time to stop and pray for a while.

Claudia and Anne

After that, we went to a Militaeristische Stuetzpunkt (military base) for a Deutsch Amerikanisches Volksfest.

They almost didn't let us in because I didn't have my passport, but eventually Anne talked them into it.

This was a game where you purchase ping pong balls and try to get them into the cups by bouncing them off of the table.
Whatever cup you land in is yours.  I got 12 ping pong balls (purchased with 3 American dollars that I had in my wallet), and they gave me one extra.
I bounced about 10 balls, and got nothing.  Anne bounced one, Claudia bounced one, and neither got anything either.
With the 13th ping pong ball, I landed in a glass and got a .3 Liter Schwarzbier glas.  Who says 13 is unlucky?

After returning to Claudia's, we then drove back to Nuremburg to stay the night at Anne's grandparents.

Germany Map - where I lived

I lived and studied at the German university in Oldenburg which is near Bremen, and about two hours east of Hamburg, Germany.  Clearly visible on the map are Bremen and Twistringen, Germany.  When I go back, I'd like to visit Hannover and Berlin, as well as Cologne.  Also, I'd like to visit more German castles, Because I only visited two in Nuremberg.  Click on the buttons on this page to see pictures and advice about studying abroad in Germany (and traveling advice for France), or click the links below to go to strive4impact.com's other pages.
