Happy Easter!

Anne took Kurt and I up to the coast!  It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about the importance of building up dykes around the water to protect the land behind it.  More about that down below.

This is Roberto (Spain) hiding eggs outside on Easter morning.

Anne (Germany), Jared (Wyoming), Kurt (Colorado), Brian (Wyoming), Mindy (Wisconsin), outside of Huntemannstrasse #2!  This is the entrance to where I live.

On the way to the coast, we stopped at the house where Anne's Godfather lives.  It was a cool house!

This is Anne's parents' house up on the coast.  It's a nice place!
Right:  Because Anne's Dad works in the drapery industry, this house is used primarily for seminars.  It also makes a great place to get away for a couple days or for Easter!

Anne, Kurt, and Anne's friend Kim, along with Kim's dog, whose name I forgot.

Sheep grazing on the deich (dyke).  I would venture to say that most Americans do not know what a dyke is.  The entire peninsula of Butjadigen is surrounded by a hill of dirt.  When the tides come in, these dykes are there to stop the water from coming through and flooding the land and homes behind the dykes.  Anne explained to me that the sheep graze on the dyke because over time, their walking on the dyke over time pounds down the dirt, maneur, rocks, and clay that make up the dyke, so that it forms a more effective barrier against high tide.  Coming from Colorado, where there is no ocean and not a lot of standing water, I found all of this to be very interesting!

HAPPY EASTER!

Germany Map - where I lived

I lived and studied at the German university in Oldenburg which is near Bremen, and about two hours east of Hamburg, Germany.  Clearly visible on the map are Bremen and Twistringen, Germany.  When I go back, I'd like to visit Hannover and Berlin, as well as Cologne.  Also, I'd like to visit more German castles, Because I only visited two in Nuremberg.  Click on the Germany links on this page to see pictures and advice about studying abroad in Germany (and traveling advice for France), or click the links below to go to strive4impact.com's other pages.
