Night falling over the Champs Elysee's

Then we walked to the Eiffel Tower.  On the way, it began to sparkle and light up.  Anne's book told us that it does this every hour, on the hour and for five minutes afterwards.

TIP #12  If you want to see the Eiffel Tower light up and sparkle at night, get there right before the hour.

I laid down in the middle underneath the Eiffel Tower and took a picture up.  Pretty cool huh?

TIP #13, if you see a guy and he looks like this, don't let him talk you into sketching you for free.  IT ISN'T FREE!  I'm sure there are some good sketch artists in Paris, but make sure you know the whole story up front!

Anne and I were not going to have sketches done.  We had no intention of getting sketches done and didn't necessarily want them.  But they guy picked us out (as tourists I'm sure) and talked us into having sketches done.  The sketches that they drew of us were not anything compared to the demonstration sketches that they had.  (In other words, I could have drawn the sketch that he drew.)  Anne and I, both pretty experienced travelers, got hustled in Paris.  They told us it was free, and after they were done, told us it was 500 franc, about $80-$85.  Long story short, Anne ended up giving them 150 Franc, or about $25.

We both felt pretty bitter about the experience.  But I didn't want to carry the bad feelings with me, so I suggested we burn the pictures as a celebration of lessons learned in Paris.  So we burned the sketches.

I figure that a college course costs somewhere around $200-$250 minimum, and I go sit in class for 3 hours/week for 18 weeks/semester.  I learned more in that 1 hour than I have in some of my classes in an entire semester.  Nobody got hurt, everything turned out alright; that's money well spent I figure.

This is the fountain which sits across from the Eiffel Tower.  It's impossible to show in pictures how awesome it is!  However, we were there right as the lights on it were changing (quite on accident, at 10:00 PM) and it was really cool to see!

We took pictures of the Metro signs, even though we walked back that night.

So many beautiful sights in Paris at night!
