10 Mai I got the network card set up and installed properly. YEAH!!! But still no Internet connection. Pictures of the Mittlestufe stadtfuhrung around Oldenburg. |
On May 10th, my Mittlestufe class took a tour around Oldenburg. We learned a lot about the history of the city and had wonderful weather for our afternoon/evening.

This is the Alte Rathaus... the old
city hall. Very nice!
This is the Lambertikirche... the most well
known building in Oldenburg. It was renovated (well, several times changed
actually) over the years. The inside was actually remodeled and made into
a round church instead of being in the shape of a cross like most old
cathedrals. It's an awesome building from the outside!

Someone has taken the time to spray a Karl
Marx quote on the church. "Religion ist das Opium des Volkes!"
(Religion is the Opium of the masses.)

This is Anton Gunther... He was an Oldenburg
resident whose cousin was a Danish king. When the king died, there was no
one to take his place in his lineage since he had had no children, so Anton
Gunther became the kind of Denmark. (Thanks to Kevin from Wyoming for that
information.)

This is the Hof Apotheke... One of the
oldest buildings in Oldenburg... It used the pharmacy for the duke and
dutchess of Oldenburg.
I will get better pictures of this.
It's a memorial in Oldenburg for those who fought against Napoleon in the war of
1870/1871.

Me and Mara standing in the lilacs in the
Heiligengeistwallanlage.

Pictures of the Schlossgarten (Castle
garden) which sits in the middle of Oldenburg. It's a really beautiful
park, and I am looking forward to spending more time laying in the sun there
(when it decides to stop raining.)

This is the city theater looking towards the
south and looking towards the North. The part on the left was added
several years after the original building (at a cost of 20 million Marks). The Arts were very important to the old Oldenburg residents, and I assume that remains the case today.
I hope to get to see a show here!

A fountain in Oldenburg

I took this picture because it showed what
Wallstrasse looks like on a normal day, when it's not totally filled with
partying people. It's a great street to get something to eat or drink!

This is Casa Vecchia... everyone says it has
good Italian food (I haven't been there yet). There's a Bier Garten out
front.

Kurt and Anne having fun with pictures!

The German speakers might enjoy this
poster. I didn't go to this party, but thought the poster was an
interesting difference from the states, since it was hanging on the door on the
way into the dorms.
