Helping you find the best VoIP or phone headset

Jonathan's Headsets

Headsets for Voice Over Internet Protocol-VoIP
Also known as PC-to-phone headsets

The best headsets/headphones for talking from your computer to someone else's computer, or for talking from your computer to someone else's phone.

Here are the top 3 headsets I would recommend for calling from your computer to someone else's phone.  Or, they can also work on cell phones and home phones that have a standard plug in (like the headset plug you would have on a walkman/discman/ipod.)

Please note that with these headsets, I have tried out many headsets to find the ones that I think are the most comfortable, while still being easily affordable.

The Best Computer Headsets are from Sennheiser

I used to recommend these headsets, but I just don't anymore. The technology they used is outdated.

The links to them might even be broken by now.

All-In-One Cordless & Cellular Phone Headset (EARHUGGER C-8100): R

EARHUGGERS C-8100 ALL-IN-ONE CORDLESS & CELLULAR PHONE HEADSETSET

This headset has the smaller plug in size (like for cell phones or cordless phones), but is very good and versatile for VOIP calling from a cordless phone (Like you can do with Packet8 VOIP phone service), and can be used for your cell phone as well.

Stereo PC Headset with Bass Response

Stereo PC Headset with Bass Response

This PC Headset offers, in my opinion, a superior speech recognition microphone.  It has 40mm speakers, which give you full-range stereo sound and maximum bass effects.  It's great for serious gamers and music listeners, and also works very well for VOIP phone calls.  It has an in-line volume & mute control, so you can mute your phone call and control the volume of the VOIP call, which can sometimes be a bit touchy.  It offers a Quick Adjust feature, and microphone.  You will find that this is compatible with most PC sound cards

DSP-500 digitally-enhanced gaming/multimedia headset

DSP-500 digitally-enhanced gaming/multimedia headset

This one is a bit more expensive, but is perfect for multimedia applications such as games, CDs, and MP3 music speech recognition.  This makes it great for voice applications like VOIP calling.

What are the cheapest VOIP providers?

You can find many VoIP providers online.  Those listed below are those that I know of which offer the cheapest and most reliable service: Cheap meaning inexpensive call rates, but high quality.

Skype

If you're not yet using Skype, you're nuts.  That's it.  I have no sales pitch for them or anything, but if you have a high speed Internet connection, you totally have to get on Skype.  International calling to a phone via your computer is like 3 cents/minute (depending on the country), and PC to PC calling is basically free.

www.iConnectHere.com
iConnectHere.com offers visitors a great solution with their PC-to-Phone service.  I use PC-to-Phone to call friends in Europe from my computer and have never paid more than 7 cents/minute.  I've listed some example rates to the right... The number for Italy is pretty much standard as far as cost for their VoIP calls to continental Europe phones.  (Cell phones can be a bit more, but still cheap.).  I am currently signed up for their call Europe plan, and calling from my computer to anywhere in Europe is only 4 cents/minute!
